Inuit Myth Begins...

One of my small obsessions is Inuit art and myth.
I just love their prints and sculpture, and how innocent and organic they look. I am also interested in Inuit myths. Their myths and tales are very unique because they are honest and innocent, but also somewhat disturbing.

This one is from a series I am working on right now.
It is about a witch that comes down to towns at night and tells jokes to sleeping peoples until they laugh so much that their organs burst out.

Repost(?)

I have recently learned how to scan images correctly, and I decided to scan most of my works again to make them look better on my blogs and upcoming website(soon!).

These works are also posted below. They are my art works for the Junior Thesis Show with a theme called, "Poisoned Apples and Smoking Lamp". Basically, it was about fairytales...dark part of fairytales... far away from Disney versions, which are strangely sugar-coated.

Anyways, I think they look better in this post.

I have explained about my work before, but if you would want to hear it again, then it is about a story called, The Juniper Tree. It is a very gruesome story collected and written by the Grim Brothers. It is also a very long and combining many different fairytales, so if you are interested, just search it and you will be fascinated and slightly disturbed (like my friends did).

Recent Works

Recently, I am very much interested in printmaking.
I have always been attracted to the beauty of printmaking ever since I took etching class in sophomore.

I am now working on most of my Portfolio class assignment by etching. I will post more of my etching works soon.

Here is a piece that I did for a theme, Hot off the Presses, which could be interpreted as freely and loosely as I wanted. I did an image of flower, calling attention of butterflies and bees (which now look like green flies rather than bees). I printed it in etching first, then added colors and adjusted tones with Photoshop.

I have two images that have slightly different colors for the butterflies. I haven't decided which would work better for the feeling of the image. So I just posted two pictures.

Junior Thesis

I did these for this year's thesis project. The theme is called 'Poisoned Apples and Smoking Lamps: Interpreting Fairy Tales and Adventure Stories'.

My choice of fairy tale was 'The Juniper Tree'. To be honest, I did not finish the series; I originally have planned to make seven piece-series, but lack of time and energy led me to stop at five works.

However, my first piece was selected for the invitation postcard of the exhibition. Therefore, the other pieces of my work had to be put on the show anyway. The Department Chair, who also curates the show, told me they were "beautiful" (I'm quoting this because I'm not sure if he really meant it or was just being nice and kind), and I decided to accept his complement because it's good for me, too.

I am truly excited for the exhibition! I can't wait to see my work put up on the wall of the gallery!

I will post some photos of the exhibition pretty soon.

Most recent works

These are illustrations based on the Jabberwocky poem from Alice in Wonderland.
I made a little pamphlet of these images.
